RV8 Best exhaust for a fabulous noise
I am building a RV8 and I am starting to think about the exhaust. I have confirmed that I can get it made locally by people who have supplied exhausts for my Viento before. But what I want to know is what extra considerations should I consider to get a better noise out of it. Pipe size, silencers, manifold lengths etc etc. I know nothing really so all advice is welcome. I am building a V8 powered kit car.
I am not after huge bass rumbling away but a powerful, growling, menacing noise would be good.

Yes its is (well going to be as its part built) a Luego Viento Large Seven style car. The engine is a 3.9 Rover V8 rebuilt by V8devs with a Webber 500 Carb. The exhaust will be the exterior body type running down each side of the car (probably).gelmonkey wrote:Hi

For best sound then 4 into1 headers into a simple collector then about 10" long 2" bore pipe into a simple straight through can about 6" diamiter about 24-30" long and a short tail pipe and don't put too much packing in it. headers 1.5" into a 2" bit after the collector into a 2.25" to 2.5" for the can and tail pipe
Not for road use then as before for the headers the same to the collector then 3" of 2" bore pipe, followed by 12 inches that tapers out from 2" to 4" followed by about 4-6 inches of 3" pipe followed by 4" that tapers from 4" down to 3" stick a 3" disc over that with a 1 3/4" hole in the middle with a 2" piece of 1 3/4" diamiter pipe welded in so 1" sticks out. That will have a bark on it that you won't believe, basically the same as my Laverda cans (but scaled up a bit) I assure you you won't need to get your ears syringed ever again

I supose you could combine the two by comming out the expanson chamber bit into a 2.5" pipe straight into the silencer from the first surgestion brobably still bark like a good un just a bit quieter.

The man wants to be able to hear at the end of his trip even if it is only to the bottom of the road
Electronic dumps are a pretty cool bit of kit to fit into an exhaust system too.
Not that I would condone anyone with a V8 to give it a rip when a Billy Bolt On comes up alongside and starts revving their awful Saxo et al
