"vent" hoses on SU carbs?

Post by Will Reeve »

There seems to be a couple of port on my SU's which are just attached to hose which goes no-where! I have two ports which connect to each rocker cover (via a flame trap) and next to these are two ports that just had hose attached. What do they do, vent or overflow for something? Do I need to route hose down or can they just be left open?

Hi
one of them is an overflow for the float bowl that wants routing out to somewhere it won't dump petrol on anything hot. One will be for vac take-off for a brake survo, possibly one for vac advance this will be a small bore pipe about 1/8". what is there is really dependent on what the carb came off.
Best regards

Thanks Mike, that will explain why the pipe just went down the side of the engine! Left off fuel would just squirt onto the exhaust! I think I will make a new one (it was plastic and broke on removal!)
