and would not mind my car being in there for a weekend or two while i remove the engine, strip it re do the rings etc and refit?

Caprisports workshop is a bit busy at the moment,
and if i dont soon get the engine done i wont be going to any shows or race meetings again this year

well not much to report,
engine is nearly ready to be palleted up and to be sent to Ray and co at V8 Developments,
block is going to be tophat linered, 4.0 pistons removed from the faulty 4.6 rods that damaged the engine, and then whole bottom end will be lightened and balanced,

engine seems to be running sweet now,

hope to have sorted the steering problem,
picked up a new crossmember today at caprisport, and made a few mods to it,
my last crossmember the inner track arm bolt holes have elongated, which we think is the problem with the steering judder under braking,

so on the new one i did this on the front and back side of the crossmember.

puts a bit more meat around the bolt hole area allowing the bolt to pull up against something a bit more solid etc....

well we know the new setup is delivering a shite loads more torque now,

had a pair of nearly new single leaf springs fitted last november,#
and considering the car has been off the road with engine failure, since its been mobile again the torque from the revised 4.6 engine has decambered the leaf springs by 1.5 inches

a new set of springs was fitted yesterday, we had to fit lowering blocks to these ones as they are uprated and the rear sat to high,
any bets on how long before these start to bend the opposite way

Tony,

Fitting lowering blocks will bend your springs in double quick time as they increase the torque reaction by adding additional leverage.

Proper axle location is the only real answer, is there nothing locating your axle other than the springs?

Regards,

kevin.

mate had to fit the blocks.
there was a 2inch gap between the tyre and wheel arch looked awful

springs and anti roll bar is it mate on a capri, plus a caprisport axle location kit.
once i find a 8inch foxbody axle i can use the 4link parts i have.

Tony,

There is one trick you can do, if you still have the old springs and the centre section from a couple of inches from the spring eyes is not bent, then cut off the spring eyes and mount it under the new leaf, it will not increase the spring rate but will increase the resistance of axle wind up as the now lower leaf makes contact with the underside of the new springs, it will also improve launch and traction, not dissimilar to what perry did with his slapper bars but can be more effective.

You only need the section that runs forward from the axle mounting point with the U bolts.

Get them de-arched, a good springsmith should be able to do this for you, IIRC its done cold on a hydraulic press, failing that get them "Dog Legged" again done cold, Leda used to do it, but have stopped since they were taken over,
Of course theres the other way, get some old shagged used singles,
THE SMOKING GNU
12.604 with an old boiler of a RV8 and no gas
WHY are there so many IANS on this site???????

was shagged used singles that were on there ian,
they were fine until we started giving it lots of loud pedal,
dont think they like the grief they are now getting, hence the new ones,
at this rate the lower blocks will be out anyways as after today these are starting to bend too

well its been quiet on the western front been enjoying some quality driving time in the car after breaking it at its first outing at the track this year,
so whats new???
as many know (other post on forum) we are now the owner of a mustang 8.8 axle,
and on Thursday the 18th November (my birthday  ) the axle is off to ARRC (andy robinson race cars), where its being narrowed, the c clips removed, 9" axle ends and bearings fitted and mosser shafts,
while the axle is away on holiday being pampered the engine will start to have the next stage of mods done to her,
the paxton SN92 supercharger.
