Which Dizzy?

Post by bullyboy »

Hi

Tried to fire my RV8 4.6 after rebuild today and discovered that my newtronics electronic ignition system has died.
I spoke to Chris at RPI who was very helpful and recommended a Mallory Unilite Dizzy, but the kits cost £375 which is a little expensive for me at the moment.
He told me that i would be waisting my time with another newtronics or similar system.
The car is not going to race, just the occasionally cruise in the summer.
Can anybody recomend or suggest any other alternatives please?
Thanks in advance.

Chris

I recommend a stock Range Rover distributor / ignition amplifer & coil (all 3!)

They work pretty well in my experience.

Chris,

I certainly wouldn't recommend spending that sort of money for a Mallory distributor. For £375 you could buy a Megajolt ECU to run the ignition and still have a lot of change.

RPI will try and empty your wallet, there are other rover V8 parts suppliers who will give honest advice and charge more reasonable prices such as Real Steel and Paul atV8 Tuner.

Is the 4.6 modified? if not then a standard Rover 35DLM8 distributor will work fine and for a modified engine a few minor tweaks to the advance curve will do the job.New power amps are only around £30 from your local motor factor usually branded as Intermotor.

They come up on e-bay quite regularly or if in a hurry Give Alan Coote at Range Rover Heaven a call 07711 369785 he will probably have one or possibly Jim at JRV8 as advertised on this forum.

Sarcasm Mike  , just like when the missus says- "you never seem interested in what I did at work/uni today" and you reply- "of course I am- tell me more!!!"

Thanks for the advise guys.
The engine is a RV8 4.6 running a piper 270 cam with lightly ported standard heads and an eldebrock 500 carb.
Ill give those guys a call and see what they have.

Thanks again.
