Fantastic news :D

What are the blanking plugs you use on your timing cover? Are they just m20 plugs or is there more to them than that?

Mike

Hi mate,
i had two sets come with that new serp cover i got,
these factory ones were screwed in:
Image

and i had some metal replica ones also with the cover,
we used the metal ones and where someone brazed a hex head on to it it sheared off there,

Also had a bit of a moment going to work this morning,
pulled into our carpark and had loads smoke coming out the front of the grill and by the screen,
a ferkin heater hose had burst :-(
sorted that out at dinner time and touch wood, was good as gold on way home tonight,
did have it sideways leaving work down the road though

also think the battery is losing a cell as the starter aint as quick as it was and the battery was fully charged when disconected but was near flat 5 weeks later when we connected it up on sunday,

Hi Tony
Glauber salts your battery, http://www.pharmacy4all.biz/acatalog/Gl ... .html#a432 poor out the acid, pour in a saturated solution of the salts (stir in the salts into tepid water until you can't dissolve any more) stick it on charge for 12 to 18 hours, pour out the solution and flush with water, pour the acid back in and use. It strips off the lead sulphide off the plates that builds up on a battery that is left to stand, cheeper than a new battery.
Best regards
Mike

Thank Tony. Those are the ones I've got. Just wondered if there was a standard metal replacement, never mind.

What do you need a heater for?

I Think you need to do 1000 miles before going full synth.

Nice install, be nice to see some more pictures, esp of your cooling system.

p.s. What I did for plugs was get some old cooler hoes and cut the plugs of them and welded up the tube.

Tony,

Car looks fantastic and you must be grinning from ear to ear now the engines sorted.

Re the oil as it was only a light rebuild i would change the oil and filter soon to get the debris from bedding in out and use a normal 20/50 with the required .12 ZDDP content and then a further change at say 500 + miles to ensure you have a clean engine

I would not use a synthetic unless it retains the same ZDDP content as the classic oils or the cam and lifters will wear very quickly.
