Just got off the phone with Ray at V8 developments,
and can now honestly say the engine is being collected Monday 29th March, for V8D to get on with the block work and the lightening and balancing work,
May not have the engine back till mid may,
but gives me some time to get the bearings ordered and here and a few other bits and bobs etc.
then comes the fun of bedding it all in again
how many miles? cam and lifters is already broke in,

Hi Tony
assuming you are reusing the cam and lifters, and replacing bearings, then probably work on sticking in 30 weight oil and a zinc addative pack (as insurance on the cam) for about 200 to 250 miles to bed in the bearings and rings. Drop the oil out and stick in your normal running oil. Just don't be too gentle with it and it all should bed in fine.

spent the day cleaning the block down and boxing everything up ready for the courier Monday morning,
the engine will be bolted to the pallet in the morning along with the pistons rods and other parts etc, and left at my mates shop for collection.

The only thing aside from cam/followers that requires any runnng in, is the rings.

Nothing else. Even the cam should be sorted after 15-20 mins tops.

Rings is debatable.


You'd never see a race engine run in for 1000 miles though. Maybe 20-30 mins.

I dont think I'd ever bother more than 200 miles now. Just make sure bore prep is good, and use the right oil for running in. Also dont be afraid to rev it during running in. It may never fully bed in running at idle all the time ( and lets face it, most V8's could go most placs without using much over 2000rpm )

the courier collected the engine and parts at 16.20 today,
and is now on its way to v8 developments,

UPDATE:
Just got off the phone with Ray.
Engine arrived this morning at V8D,
the block has been prepped/stripped and is going off to the company that does the TH linering in the morning,
the 4.0 pistons have been removed from the rods, which Ray said are in an awful state. (rods that is)
they hope to get the 4.6 pistons off the new rods that will be used with the 4.0 pistons tomorrow and start lightening/balancing everything,
then its a waiting game for the block to be returned to them,

At least i now know the engine is being worked on, and he was amazed at the bore damage the pins did

I know this is late in the day to surgest this but if you ask them to put in an extra thick liner it gives you the option of using a chevy 305 piston later with boost (you can use them and a small amount of boost but the extra wall thickness would help) just a thought

i think mines having thicker liners due to the damage the pin has done on those two cylinders, as Ray said the gouges are real deep.
