Help the clutch is mad!

Post by stagcar »

Hi All,

Having some fun with the manta's clutch

As you may be awhere i got the car as a none runner and its been stored for many years.

The hydrolic clutch master cylender and slave are both dead so i have swapped with new ones and replaced the pipe work.

It seems to have bled out ok but the peddle still feels a bit light to me

I have used a difrent size master cylender it was a .625 i have replaced it with a .7 so i recon i should have a heavy peddle and more movment on the slave? can somone confirm this?

It looks to me like the clutch may have stuck to the fly wheel so whats the best way to free it? or isit a box out job? i have tryed the clutch down hit the starter but all i have done is busted the garage door LOL.

Any help would be cool

Cheers
Derek

PS the master cylender is on the reverse of the peddel right under the dash it tock 4 hours to swap so not keen to do it again.

Yes you are correct bigger master will me more slave movement and heavier pedal

I have clutch rusting problems and I managed to break it off with the starter - strange enough in 1st got the same as you - a car trying to drive - in 3rd it broke the "rust"

If it does not release it's a box or engine out job - whichever is easier

Occasionally after off roading my Landy the clutch will stick, usually cos i forgot the wading plug! anyway 1st gear engine running left foot on clutch and a bit of heel and toe on the brake and throttle normally sorts mine, probably not the best option for your vehicle though...

Don't half go with a bang when they do go though!

Gain access to the pressure plate.

Press the clutch pedal down, and insert a thin screw driver up in to break the friction plate away from the flywheel or pressure plate as required.

Rotate the engine by hand, repeating this process.

You may need to drill a hole in the bellhousing or whatever to facilitate this.

Thanks for the help chaps.

managed to get the thing to free off in the end with a fully charged batury and 3rd gear clutch down hiting the starter trick.

There was also still a problem with the hydrolic master cylender needed the peddel box welding up in the end so lots of standing on me head for that one.

Any way its working now so cheers.

Now its on to the brakes and MOT welding why do we do it!

it just never ends :D

Still when its done i can start to get the Blower Engine together

Cheers
Derek :D
