302 Heads

Post by topcatcustom »

Anyone know how good ford 302 heads are as standard? Are they anything like the Rover ones which benefit from a very small amount of work yealds decent gains or is it all or nothing with the porting?

Andrew if you see this would you like me to get one up to you to play with or do you really need a fully ported one to compare it to to get any idea of flow?- asuming the novelty of testing hasn't worn off yet of course

You send it up and I will throw it on the bench and see what it flows - For Ford 302 heads there is more than enough info out there and I am sure that with the casting numbers the guys on the Speed talk or the Tractorsport forums will give plenty of info on simple flow mods.

Whats the bore on the 302? see if the Rover Jig will suit.

Cheers

Not that much more work if you have the right tools - having done a couple of Pinto heads Iron is quite nice to work with

Alloy being so soft has its issues with the removal rate making to easy to remove too much material in the wrong places.

I have some stage 3 heads that I am looking at to try and find out why the flow no better than some stage 1 heads - Key seems to be that too much material has been taken out behind the valve area in relation to the port upstream.

I have a 4" mounting jig so no problem there.
