reboring - how much?

I have decided to up the compression on my current rover v8 rebuild from 8.5:1 to something like 9.75:1. Some of the bores have a small rigde at the top so so I've decided to get it rebored to plus 20 thou.

When I take my block to my local machine shop to rebore it, do I supply the pistons for them to measure up and bore to, and roughly how much should it cost?

Would it be worth getting the crank rope seal groove re-machined to take a rubber lip seal at the same time considering the cost of the job?

not sure about the pistons i think generally they re-bore to the next size up +0.020" etc. I think it would be a good idea to get block machined for the later type rubber seal instead of early rope one when it is all apart though.

I live near Gaydon, and I work in High Wycombe where I know a machine shop, they quoted £40 to reface a flywheel, £60 to lighten it and £45 to skim each head. I'm in no hurry to get the work done, I just want to know roughly much it should cost and what I need to put aside for getting the work done. I don't want to get ripped off if I can save a sizeable amount by shopping around.

If you are talking about the rope seal at the front of the crank on the pre SD1 front cover. All you have to do is drill off the rivet heads on the plate inside the cover. Remove the plate and tap a later rubber seal into place.
You dont have to do any machine work to get the front rubber seal in.

In Ramsgate, my mate was charged about £10 per cylinder for the rebore

I already have an sd1 cover to go on this engine, and I've modified a P6 cover in the past to take the rubber lip seal, very easy mod, only required grinding off the front lip on the timing cover, but the groove in the rear of the block is not deep enough for me to just 'grind' a bit away.
£10 per cylinder sounds top value, but do I need to supply pistons for them to measure against?

No you don't have to supply pistons they will have the data they need.
