Rover Manifold bleed pipe

Post by satancom »

When I fitted my V8 into my landy I drilled and soldered a piece of pipe into the top of the radiator header tank for the coolant bleed pipe between the carbs on the inlet manifold. This worked well.

However i have now replaced the radiator with a brand new one and am reluctant to drill it untill its 12month warranty is up at least. What can I do with this pipe? I am draining the coolant out on the weekend and would like to plum it in properly.

I have seen rubbber hose take offs that clamp into any rubber hose. Where can I get one at short notice? I found them online for about £14+ delivery. This is a bit steep I think.

Any suggestions?

As always thanks for your help.

I've got the plastic Land Rover Defender expansion tank fitted to my SIIA and my inlet manifold bleed pipe is connected to that along with a slightly larger pipe from the bottom hose. I'm using a slightly altered 110 V8 radiator, which also has a small bleed pipe going to the expansion tank.

Thats another option then.. Although using the existing series front end I don't have a world of room under the bonnet for an expansion tank. I have an overflow tank thing on the side of the radiator thats not pressurised, but obviously thats no good for this application.

Funnily enough I was in Cannock today and clocked a few nice 88's :)

Moving the front panel forward gives loads of room in the engine bay. If you have a look at my engine bay shot in my Garage you'll see the type of expansion tank that I mean.

My old Landy used to run on the hot side with the standard series radiator, I've had no issues with my current set up, it's basically the same as a Factory LR V8.

None of them would've been mine, I'm working in Cornwall until tomorrow :P ! Were you at Craddock's by any chance  ?

If I moved the radiator forward I would probably go ahead and fit a larger 90 radiator or something. I want to keep the standard series look and indeed the bonnet.

Its an Ex-mod, so whilst not being a painted in camo and all that I still want it to look as close to original as possible but with plenty of modifications. It allready embarreses some of the more modern machinery with ease. Make people upset when its 'just an old series'.

No not craddocks unfortunatly, nothing interesting like that. Is craddocks in cannock then? If so I will have to remember that and take a nose next time I am that way!

The front end makes mine look quite modern from the front, sometimes I wish I'd still got the original headlights in the grill front end.

It's always good fun when cars get embarrased by 40 odd year old Land Rovers  !

John Craddocks' is in North Street, Bridgtown, part of Cannock, the showroom's not the biggest, but they keep a huge range of spares, new and used :D .
