ROVER V8 ROCKER SHAFTS AND ROCKERS

Post by dedoo »

What is the exact difference between these and the ones RPI sells. RPI charges 155 for what seems like the same stuff...

I know RPI charges way more than it's worth for just about anything but almost 3 times for this...

It almost makes me wonder the first are some cheap crappy ones...

any thoughts?

You do get what you pay for,

i have just looked at rimmerbros and a set of arms and shafts is going to be abut £200.

you can get a fully assembled pair from v8tuner for £190.

its all about your budget

RPI do use good quality gear, they use it in ther rebuilds im sure

i payed £118 for pair of shaft and 16 rocker arms in 2004

There are loads of crap quality parts available for the RV8. I bet (and have read on the forum) that cheap rockers and shafts have more play in them than a decent set that has done 80k miles.

If you use a crappy set you will end up with a noisy engine, less power due to loss of valve lift and less oil pressure due to the oil spilling out of the rockers.

If you are looking for followers you also need to watch out for crap ones!

I just ordered a rocker shaft kit from Rimmers (pedestals, steel rockers, new shafts etc). These have quite a lot of play, I know actually know if factory specified any tolerance for rockers. I would have expected less play but I only need the shafts and pedestals since I have Yella Terras waiting. It was cheaper to buy a set than the parts separately. BTW, same parts were of the famous Britpart origin...

I bought mine from real steel. Rockers were a nice slide fit on the shafts & after 25K they are still perfect.

Ged are your rockers OEM alloy ones?

There can't be that many manufacturers of these parts. I got a set of steel ones from RPi around 18 months ago they seem a bit slack on the shafts. I think they are the same part sold on eBay for a lot less.

Besides the S**tpart ones which others should be avoided and which are the good ones?

I would like to buy a set of the Federal Mogel rockers as recommended in Des Hammell book (the Land Rover OEM ones are very expensive) however I don't know of a supplier here or in the U.S. Anyone know where to buy them?

Hi Paul,

To tell you the truth I'm not sure. Yes they are aluminium & at the time they looked the same as my original ones. It never occurred to me whether they were OEM or not.

The Part No's were:-

Rocker shaft AZ804

L/H Rocker CX2728

R/H Rocker CX2726

Thanks for the info Ged and Jim Bob.

If I can't find the Fedrel Mogal ones I think I'll go to Real Steel.

Cheers.

You might want to check out http://www.streetperformance.com, www.jegs.com or send an LR parts online dealer an email like Atlantic British http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/611660G.cfm
