TVR 390SE Engine

Hi All

I have a TVR wedge 390se project which for various reasons I am not going to get sorted. I have it for sale for £1800. My question is, is the engine and gearbox anything special? Is it worth scrapping the car for the engine?

Gearbox will be a bog standard LT77, the engine will 99% likely just be a stock bottom end with ported heads (standard valve sizes) and a kent h214 cam. They usually produce around 210-220 bhp.

There were allegedly only around 5 engines out of the 100+ 390se produced that had the full bag of mashings from Andy Rouse. So while you might have an uber special monster of an engine its unlikely, of course there are a couple of ways to find out, get it on the dyno to see if it produces anywhere near the claimed 275bhp or strip it down and see what you've got.

i think you can guess if got the proper Andy Rouse engine just by the sound your car makes and the way it pulls

Will a wedge 3.9 be too early to be a ranger rover 3.9, but a JE 3.9 with the 93.5 sleeved bore

How about this for a theory, from the V8 engine number chart
3.5 engines
37A0000 Morgan +8 9.75:1 CR EFI
37A0000 TVR 350i 9.75:1 CR EFI

so the Morgan and TVR have the same number. So

3.9 engines
47A00001 Morgan +8 9.35:1 CR EFI

If you look at the picture below the number looks like
_7A00_05

could this be
47A00005

Think I'd rather have an early NCK engine than one of the Rouse specials?

It looks like its been worked as the number has been machined. Have a look on the front of the n/s cylinder head TVR put engine numbers there as well. The Vin number also encodes the original engine size.

Whats the engine cc quoted in the reg doc if its approx 3900cc it's a converted 3.5, if 3.948 it's a 3.9 based engine.
