I have been offered a 4.0 2000 Chimaera engine with 48k out of a write off for £1000.
I know the TVR power claims are dubious but I'm finding it hard to find any info on what exactly is in them.
Anyone know ?
Even the late ones seem to have dizzy's for example.
Thanks
2000 TVR 4.0 Chimaera Engine - What Spec Are They ?

I'm 95% sure they are just standard LR 3.9 engines, with a different camshaft, and ECU timing and fueling, the 4.0 was bottom of the range so was very little was done to them, I think most got 210 BHP, the Wedge 4.0 was a lot more tuned. but they was based on the 3.9adarmo wrote:Yes it comes with all the ancills
I read somewhere that they used non cross bolted blocks.
Smaller cranks
O ringed and Ported heads (maybe only the 4.3's)
Lightweight flywheels
Diffferent ECU timing / fueling
But I can't seem to find any real info.
the 4.3 BV and 4.5BV engines had a bit more work done to them, and I think only the later 5.0 was x-bolted.
Current V8 car TVR 400SE 240 BHP
Current Project TVR Tasmin Race, with 3.9 running at 230 BHP
Currently building a 4.6 300 BHP Xbolted Engine for it. Solid Lifters and Group A rockers, Stange 4 heads, Pocketed piston, fully balanced.

I agree the 4 ltr engines were fairly std landrover.
The 5 ltrs werent the only cross-bolted. My 450 is crossbolted and stamped as a 4.6 with the big valve heads but not ported as much as the 5.0s.
Mines a '98 with the serpentine front with the better oil pump etc.
