well still no rev counter working :?
tried the resisitor trick as per vems and i had no joy,
think we know what the steering judder is about, power rack failing, bit of play etc,. a lot of play where the columb fits to it.

Neil and i took for a spin then,#
and being naughty i gave it some, now lets see who bollocks me for it being a new engine,
any ways after a few runs etc we headed back, then i shat a brick she started missfiring,
i though i had killed her,
she would pop and bang as you reved it,
checked the car over as the AF gauge was showing lean, which i thought was a fueling problem,
turned out to be a dead plug, changed it for another one, (not same heat rating but it got the car home missfire free,

does arf go well though, god knows how it will go once dave lets loose with the derestricted ignition map,

all in all chuffed to bits how she runs,
few snaggs to sort out but thats expected,

well been nearly a week and covered 130 miles so far,
a few probs,
car cut out twice for no reason yesterday on the bypass,
defo power related to the ecu as the laptop also reset twice ,
going to double check all the wiring and conectors this weekend,

car is getting up to temp spot on and dont over heat,
BUT when on the open road the water temp drops that low it kicks the warm up enrichments to cut back in and run rich :)
think the cooling system is too efficient
maybe its to do with the manifold take off to top hose,
will block this off and try it the weekend,

Same here Alan!!
I cant hear the rhoades rattle over my pipes :)

You can actually hear more of a shooshing sound from them at idle if I stick my ear close to the valley.

But who cares! They do the job eh??

Next year I'm thinking of solid lifters and a funky new cam anyway. But for road use, the bleed down lifters have been fine for me.

Now I only use it on the track it doesnt matter what I use really. I'm hoping a solid lifter and cam setup will squeeze another few hpout of her next year :)

Earth's Tony, even the one's you think aren't the problem. Reset's are 99% earth's.

By the way I'm glad your getting there.

Think may of found the cutting out prob,
the ecu plug not fully home,
but will double check every thing again.

getting some where with the over cooling prob,
made a restriction for the bypass hose, and now crusing on the bypass the water temp drops to 56C instead of 51C,
going to block the hose completly tomorrow and see if it causes any probs, in traffic and cruise, if its sorted then we are cooking,

Tony,

Shouldn't the stat be closing long before the engine gets down to those sort of temps? hard to believe it could run that cold on just the by pass circuit.

I seem to have the opposite problem with my new engine, on the open road it's running at 85-90 but is heating up to 95 in crawling traffic which i don't feel very comfortable with. I'm looking at improving the cold air flow to the rad by fitting a duct up to the bottom of the rad to stop hot air recirculating when the front mounted fans are on.

On the old setup the manifold bypass went to the back of the pump,
as the serp pump dont have this input, we ran the bypass to the top hose after the stat,
and we think this is the problem, the water pump on this serp cover does arf fire the water around.
we placed a restriction in the bypass yesterday which made it better,
will block it off today and see what that does, will also get a new stat,

Tony, what are you using to measure the engine temp. Is it from the ECU or using some other sensor. Just wondered if you have recalibrated sensor since moving to new Engine and upgraded ECU as that seems very low.

Think my bath water is hotter than you car is running

Using the ecu to measure,
same sensor and manifold from old engine. and ecu been recalibrated,

we think its down to this bypass hose,
will report back later.
