car is slowly getting better hot starting,
if you catch it with a quick blip of the throttle after she fires it will idle as normal,
if you crank it on the key and let it fire it runs for a few seconds then dies.

speedo now works, fitted the new speedo cable and it didnt cure it
the new drive gear i fitted from Jim for some reason the drive gear got mashed in the gearbox,
removed it and replaced with an orange drive and all works fine now.

SO MOT in the morning
the furthest the car has traveled in one jorney,
i hope everything goes ok :?

cheers marki,
just been looking over my old 3.9 msq,
and think i may of found the hot start prob,
the stepper settings for cold are the same, and she cold starts,
the stepper settings for hot on the 3.9 to the 4.6 msq is different by a lot,
the 4.6 settings are the same hot /cold
where as the 3.9 is 160 cold
100 hot
will try the 3.9 stepper settings after the mot and see if it starts.

Tony,

Great news, you must be delighted.

Yes a combination of wet roads and double the original 3.0 power output will have the tail wagging.

Capris always were a bit tail happy but I loved my 3.0S you could chuck it about and always get the tail back in line, and it never got me into trouble, and that was a standard car and I was a bit of a hooligan in those days.

Perhaps a stronger throttle return spring will keep you out of trouble, probably not
