A friend has just got a 3.5 RR, I think its about an H plate so not sure if flapper or hotwire? Anyway he says its running lumpy, revs up and down when it's hot and cold, and sometimes stalls when put into drive.
Any ideas?

is it runnig really rich?
If so probably in limp home mode
Disconnect battery for 30 secs
Reconnect
This resets the ECU and clears the fault code
If it persists then it's time to get a fault code reaer and find what's going iffy
I agree
Carbs are easier

There is an idle mixture screw on the air-flow meter. Does adjusting that make any difference?
You really need the Land Rover diagnostics manual, which you can get from here:
Small one to start with:
http://www.cowdery.org.uk/downloads/V8EFiSystem.pdf
And then scanned version of manual (132Mbyte!)
http://www.cowdery.org.uk/downloads/Fla ... ual.tar.gz
In my humble opinion, taking the time to download and then go through the latter download _will_ fix the problem far more reliably than making random guesses......
Chris.
