i have been told you can drill the front of the v8 block ,just above the cam to aid oil drain back
is this true if so where abouts do the 2 holes have to go

i have one of the early 3.5 v8's(rope type seal)

Yes its true and the holes go in the thick web in the valley at the front into the cam chain area. I don't know if I have any pictures of mine but I will look later. Whether it makes any odds or not I have no idea but its supposed to help oil the cam chain as well as oil drain. It doesn't cost anything to do so why not.

Ok had a look and I dont have any pictures after all the machining was done but I have done a picture with where the holes should be and the direction.

This was one of the scariest things I'd done - kept thinking i was about to ruin my rebuilt engine by drilling into one of the galleries within the block

The other thing you might want to consider is smoothing out the cutouts at the bottom of the V - below where the lifters sit. This also facilitates slightly better oil drainage onto the cam. I had this done on mine.

Looking at the pics attached to this topic, you can see that Marki has also had this done ( at least is looks this way ! )

i did it too loads of oil goes down the timing chain now i pulled my dizzy the other week and the gear was soaked like it had just been stuck it in a bucket of oil

my front crank seal leaks when its a hot engine and left idling for a min though i dont know if its connected mind

Fitting the P6 oil flinger on a later engine will reduce the work the lip type oilseal has to do - of course if your still on a rope seal I would recommend getting a newer front cover!

Mine isn't a new block - i just gave the nice man (Andy at Thanet Engine Centre) a drink to dip and dishwasher my block,pistons, bellhousing and other sundry bits. saves ab awful lot of aggro in the end and the alloy block is easy to lift.
