acts a bit like a balance pipe i think,
and helps low down torque,

Whats the idea with the crossover in the exhaust because intuitively it looks completely wrong.

Bit negative! I'd have thought a 6" section of 1 piece would be slightly better than the X in terms of helping with the pulsing and drawing exhaust gasses out, but probably not much in it at all & it should be much better than a pair of pipes with no link. Looks pretty free flowing anyway.

Hi All,

You may find this explains the theory behind the X-pipe.

I don't know why, but a crossover pipe is a good thing for a dual-plane crankshaft V8.

Negative! - Just saying it how I see it and to be honest 9 out of 10 if it looks wrong it its wrong.

Thanks for the link Ged - a bit light on any technical detail but useful as to where it originated from

Image

This makes some sense to me as its possible to tune the diameter of the hole connecting the the two exhaust passes but also separates the exhaust paths - much the same as a typical balance pipe.

Sorry if it comes across as negative but a system that just appears to smash the gasses into one another is to me intuitively wrong.

That's the whole point, when a pulse comes down one pipe, there isn't one in the other pipe, so the gas flow is smoothed out.
http://www.pypesexhaust.com/xpipes.html

What Tony has is basically a single exit exhaust system implemented with two pipes!

At the X piece, you've combined it all into one, so you should get exactly the same flow along each pipe (subject to vagaries of the pulse tuning of the X piece etc).

cheers for the links guys been an interesting read,

Well last day at work tomorrow (thursday) until sept 7th,
due to an enforced company summer shut down :(

BUT it does mean i can do a bit more work on the car,
she is meant to be at the ace cafe on sept5th

so things are going to have to move pretty fast,
dnb is working on the msq file and new firmware for the ecu (cheers mate)
so thats one thing taken off me for the time being until its running and needs tweeking,

looks like this weekend is going to be a bit manic trying to get a lot of the loose ends tied up etc.

Sorry its late guys but only been home a couple of hrs,
been a long day on the car today,

the water system is now sorted,
the bottom and top hose bends have come back from the engineers after having the water bypass pipes tig welded in,

Image

Image

with alternator etc back in place,
Image

Image

Coilpacks are finally fitted and wired up, YEEEEEEAH
Image

Plenum and fuel reg are fitted and plumbed in,
master cylinder is bolted up to servo now and the start of fitting the braided brake lines to it have started.
fuel line is all fixed inplace now and return hose fitted too.
was handy as there were a few points on the rad header tank bracket where the two fuel lines could be 'P' clipped too
Image

manifolds are bolted back onto the block too,
at this rate she aint going to be far off being ready for a fire up by Monday night.

had a funny sort of day, didnt get half the things done i wanted to, but tied up a few loose ends,

servo and master cylinder with hoses on, and fuel reg mounted and plumbed in, and we have a working throttle pedal,
Image

Nitrous fuel pulsoid wired up and plumbed into the main fuel line,
and header tank for radiator fitted and plumbed in,
Image

waterpipes to and from rad,
Image

The complete cooling system is now 100% plumbed in.
the complete fuel system is 100% finished,
the oil system is now 100% finished,
the powersteering pump is plumbed in now back to the PS bottle,

tomorrow (Bank hol monday)
Fitting the new exhaust system,
fitting the new rear shocks,
hoping to be filling her up with oil also, and going to try and turn her over on the key to prime the oil system,
and if im brave i may attempt a fire up
but need to make sure the ecu settings and firmware are correct first,
