Which OD T-liner for 3.7'' bore conversion

Post by Wotland »

Good afternoon all.

Some members here have successfully bored out early 3.5 blocks with new liners to take 3.7'' pistons.

When I check the Westwood Website, they talk of an OD of 99.06mm for their T-liner 3.7'' bore in 3.9-4.6 engine. As I know this OD of T-liner are often used for 96mm piston conversion.

In Des Hammill book, I find 96.70mm OD for T-liner 3.7'' bore conversion.

Do you think there is an risk to use the Westwood liners in 3.7'' bore conversion in early 3.5 block ? Or I need to reduce the OD of T-liners ?

Thank for your advice.

Cheers.
Dimitri

I could be wrong but I believe that people have dropped the 3.9 liners into a 3.5 block even though the 3.9 block does have more material around the liners without problems.

I can't see any problems using 3.7 liners.

Come to think of it why don't you use 3.9 liners?

Regards,

Pete

Mine is a 3.5 block with 3.9 liners in it and I believe Ian Stewart's is as well. Trouble is the top hat liners are probably bigger OD, I cant remember what the OD of the standard liners are.

Special thinwall liners are available specically fpr this conversion, they have a smaller OD than a standard 3.9 liner and hence a thinner sidewall. The obvious benefit being that more block material is retained, the downside is that the liner is too thin to overbore if this is ever required.

Hi All,

Thank for your help.

If I convert the block I would like to use T-liner.

So if somebody has the OD diameter of genuine 3.9 Liner, it will be very helpfull for me.

Cheers.

If you look at an AE catalogue you can find liners either unmachined or honed, finish fit.

Then you just order them.

Here's your measurement. Its a cheapo digi caliper not a mic but it gives you an idea of the dimension you'll be dealing with. To be honest a good machine shop will mic the liners themselves before fitting anyway, just to be sure they spec up right.
