Oil change?

Post by v8alex »

I've been runnning my rebuilt 3.5 RV8 and have covered 300miles. As it's the first oil in the engine, should I be changing it now, or cover some more miles ?

Thanks

Alex

when I ran mine in I changed the oil after 20 minutes!

Not on the road yet but I would change the oil before 500 miles. Oil is cheap enough anyway.

Hello Alex,

I second Adam's advise,..change prior to 500 miles.

Are you using 'running in oil'?

Thanks folks - this weekends job then. I'll pass the oil through some filter paper with petrol to see what residue I'm left with.

I'm using Halfords classic motor oil - 20W50 I think.

Your oil filter would have trapped the smaller bits. Cut the top off the oil filter carefully trying not to get any swarf on the element. Then examine. Still examine oil in sump though as the large bits will be stopped by the oil pick-up. However I removed my sump to fix a leak and most of these bits remain stuck to the sump floor however I run a trap door and baffled sump.
