stage 3 heads

Post by poo slinger »

my engine is a 3.9 +20 high comp engine with a piper 270 cam and a weber 500cfm carb.

i have been told to expect around 200 - 210bhp but how much of a gain would a set of stage 2 / 3 heads give me?

If the current heads are standard you will see very little gain from the cam over standard output.

The stage 3 heads will allow the engine to breath and make use of the cam so if the carb is set up properly and the ignition optimised you could see 220-230 BHP.

At one stage my engine was similar spec to yours.
I had the later 28cc heads and fitted the tin gaskets to up the compression ratio. With Burgess econotune heads it made 196bhp at the wheels with the piper 270/2 cam. I would expect stage 3 heads to better that by quite a margin.

Hiya Ross :)

As I said on the other post

Mine is 3.5 and was running a 390 Holley (now 500) and was 190bhp and 200lbft on standard heads so I would hope the 3.9 and 500 would give you at least 210bhp and I would reckon 30bhp increase at least with the stage 3 heads.
