I'd go that if the rockers are worn out, then it's pretty likely that the valve guides are shot too.

Chris.

In process of sourcing new rockers and shafts. Have a set where the shaft looks good but there is still alot of movement between rocker and shaft. Is there a specified clearance that should be between rocker and shaft? Im guessing that the alloy rockers would give out before shafts wear much

Its actually the opposite, the rocker shafts will wear right out before the rockers. Basically any iron filings etc in the engine oil (microscopic) that flow in the oil between the shaft and rocker get squashed into the soft ally bush of the rocker and sit there, making what is basically a tubular emery block- which eats through the shaft making more filings etc etc, vicious circle!
