Oil pump base

Post by Simeon »

Hi Guys and Gals Me again

Having not really looked at components properly when stripping my Rover v8 I am now cleaning and looking at the timing cover and ancilliaries. Coming off the oil pump base there is small bell type housing sort of thing which if I had to describe is something lke the vacum advance unit on the dizzy but more spherical. What is it? I can't find anything about it or like on the internet. The one I have has absolutley had it so am desperate to find a new one.

Hope you can help

Simeon

without seeing a pic its going to be either Low oil pressure switch, which wont allow the engine to start until the switch sees a certain amount of pressure, or it may be the oil gauge sender.

Further to my initial question. If you go to EBay and look at item 300293091885 it fits on to the blanked port of the left hand side of the photo. The thing I am on about is the shape of the bottom end of a shuttlecock, bullet like and is about 2.5 inches in diameter.

Any ideas

Sounds like it's some sort of adjustable pressure refief valve or an oil pressure sender.

Perhaps a photo of what you have would help

and

Hope this helps. If it is a pressure switch then I've never seen one like it before let alone try and get a new one.

It's the remains of the electric sender for the oil pressure guage on either a P5B, P6B or possibly SD1 engine by the look of what's left of it. I see it has a lip type front seal, does it have the petrol pump hole blanked off on the side of the cover?

the engine number is a 10A so it's from a 79 SDI
there is a recess in the casting on the side which is shaped similar to the real leather sign that they stamp on belts and jackets but that is completely closed. Are we any wiser?
