4.0 piston bowl size

Post by ihatesissycars »

Hi all,

Any ideas on how to measure the bowl size on some 4.0 pistons?

I need to find out what c/r they are.

Can i simply measure the depth of them and compare to another set to get a rough idea?

4.0 are 23cc, 4.6 are 32cc.

They look 'similar', but obviuosly the 4.6 ones are deeper. I have both at home, I'll measure bowl depth later if I remember.

4.6 piston bowl is 5.80mm deep.

4.0 bowl depth is 3.35mm.

Difference is obvious when they are side by side. Straight edge and a steel rule will be accurate enough to tell them apart.

Sorry, I should have said that they are both the measurements for high comp (9.35) pistons.

Cheers for the help Russell, i need to check whether the 4.0 pistons i have are high or low comp, I think to be honest i may be buying some new ones as a couple of the bores in my new block do have a wee bit a of wear so it's make sense to rebore it i suppose.
