I've phoned rs about these for ages but its always "yes next month" or Yes next month" and they never materialise.

They said they're the equivelant of their stage 2.5 heads which isn't groundbreaking.
V8'less but a fountain of dorky knowledge ref v8's!

real steel have been in the process of making these heads for at least 4 or 5 years ,and they dont seem to be any further on ,also after speaking to them they are not really going to be a vast improvement to what is already available.

5 sets avaliable for 3.9 engines in February acording to their web site.
UPDATE: The new "Merlin F85" cylinder heads are coming along
well. Flow bench tests came out within 5% of our target. Two cylinder
heads have been made, and have been tested on the dyno, on our slave
3.5/4.8 engine. Results were very good. Testing will start on a 4999cc
stroker engine in the spring of 2007. In their present form, these heads
are not suitable for the 3.5 engine.
Five pairs of heads suitable for 3.9 and larger engines, should be
available in February 2007. They will accept, "standard" configuration
cams, inlet & exhaust manifolds, and rockers as well. Stainless valves are
1.73" & 1.45", guides are manganese bronze. Seats are compatible with
unleaded and LPG fuels.

I've seen them at RS and they look nice. But about a grand a pair I think they said.
You can get 4.6 heads, ported and with big valves fitted at V8 Devs for £895 exchange.
I thought the exhaust ports would have been bigger on the RS heads as well.

They certainly have put a lot of effort into developing them though.

The exhaust port on the RS head may not look enormous but it is a massive improvement on the stock port. I think what they've tried to do is create a head that in standard form can be used with most engines while retaining potential for high power when modded. I know some people will say they would've liked to see a more focused head but we do already have wildcats for racing and RS want to sell as many heads as they can, and no doubt get some of their dev costs back too!
