Engine Number Query

I've searched everywhere, but can't find my Rover 3.5 carb engine number, 28G00161, in any list. Has anyone got any ideas?. When I bought my Series 3 in 1996, the previous owner said the engine had been transplanted from a military Land Rover. I'd be grateful for any info.

Hi,

I found a 28D is a 1986 onwards RR 3.5 litre, carburetted 8.13/1 compression ratio if that's any help.
