Stainless steel exhaust for a stag with a rover engine

Post by russ spake »

Hi, I have a Stag Mk1 with a Rover SD1 engine and gearbox, but only the exhaust tail pipe is stainless steel. Does anyone know the best stainless manifold, downpipe and middle section to fit? Thanks. Russ

Rimmer Brothers sell one but as always it's cripplingly expensive. They do complete large and small bore systems for Rover V8s, manual or auto and will sell the induvidual bits too :)

~600 quid for the full big-bore sports system, the manifolds are 400 quid for the pair I think.

Thar they blow!

Monarch Stags do stainless tubular manifolds as well although theirs are more expensive at 500 quid.

I'm sure they could sort you with the other bits too :)

It might be worth asking Quiller Triumph but I can't see them having the Rover V8 suited applications.......

Other than that - a custom fab place may be able to make you a suitable system at a good price - but I'm not the one to ask about that  I know the cost of having a system built is in the region of 300-500 depending on complexity but manifolds, not sure about those!

Russ, I have an SD1 TP Vitesse with a system that has been on the car since 1994 with no problems and consists of two "bunches of bananas" manifolds going into two through pipes all the way to the back to the first silencer over the rear axle and exiting again with two pipes into a rear silencer exiting with one 3 inch tailpipe.

Before you make your decision you might like to read a discussion document on choosing exhaust systems for the SD1 V8 that I have prepared.
