rocker outrigger posts

Post by Seight-V8 »

hiya all,

finally after 3ks wait, some new rocker outrigger posts arrived.

But is the rocker that fits in the outrigger gap, supposed to have quite a lot of clearance.

As the sideways movement of the rocker seems excessive to me.

Its about a 1.5mm gap....and all my rockers are the correct with.

So what can i do with the gap....fit the spring washer that normally goes on the end of the shaft...or make a spacer...or just leave alone.

Is this normal??

cheers

scott

Hi Scott, not sure about the gap but I was just thinking about getting some ally in to machine a set up for myself! Sooooo... could you tell me the depth of the slot where the last rocker sits please?!

hiya,

Can measure them completely if its any good to you.

Can you take cad info...if so will get them measured and turned in to a cad model.

Then you could make some extact copies....

So you are running JED outrrigger post?
I have got similar setup (same proplem as you have). I bought 4 valve spring shim first, a 1mm thickness shim. + i have to machine ID slightly because it is too small.
My local engineering "machine shop" say that there should be about 0,3-0,6mm clearance. I have got also solid spacer with all rocker, and there are about 0,4-0,5mm clearance..
I recon that you made/buy some spacer, the spring washer make more resistance and eat also some horses..

Hi Scott, thanks for the offer but unfortunately I don't have any CAD/CAM/CNC milling stuff- all wheels and handles! I can take the measurements I need from my normal posts and rocker width but just thought I would find out how thick the joining bottom piece is!

Regards, TC

TC,

Sent you a PM.

Got the sizes you need....and done a cad model...if its a help to anyone else.

That might want to make their own.

On this subject- can you get heavy duty/thicker walled rocker shafts to save buying outriggers? I am using Crane double springs (don't know the rating) but obviously a lot more force than std- and the cam has .5" lift so it will be working the valve train!

Basically I'm just wondering whether to buy or make some up- or if I can just get some decent shafts!
