Ian,

When you say the smooth file, can you elaborate as I'm in the process of sorting all the kit for my EFI system and a nice finish to the plenum would be a bonus.

Kevin.

PS. Re your engine, do I correctly understand that you have a JE102 cam as this is a fairly long duration cam(302 deg,) for a road engine and is probably the root cause of your low speed running problem.

Smooth File is a type of file same as round, half round, square, triangle, bastard and smooth. Smooth has square edges has one edge smooth and the other straight cut. The face of the file has 2 cuts done at 60 and 45 degrees if memory serves correct. (Basically the sort of file you find in most toolboxes)

Take the file and hold it at 90 degrees to the ridge you want to finish and draw the file towards you running the file along the length of the ridge.
Repeat numerous times.
By drawing the file towards you it wll leave the surface flat and shiny.

Tony sorry for the thread hijack

Right have the new serp belt at last and its fitted, PHEW!!!!!

hope to drop engine and box back in the car in a few weeks time for a trial fi,
can work out new engine and box mounts, oil cooler pipes power steering pipes and bottle location, coil pack location and plug lead lengths,
can work out what we are going to do regarding radiator (if we change from the ally audio one) and heater hoses,

it will then all come back out to re wire the engine bay, sort the fuel pipes out (wont start without these)
sort out the new clutch set up (cable)
exhaust setup, brake master cylinder, get a dizzy bung made,
still a bit to do, but its slowly getting there,

Tony,

I think I saw a post from you re priming the oil pump and picked up a tip from another forum.

if you have a remote filter set up, take of the hose on the flow side and with a funnel feed oil down the hose whilst the engine is being turned backwards, this apparently fills the pump and pushes oil back down to the pick up.
