the only breather type thing i have on rocker is the flame trap,and that goes to the mouth of plenum as standard

I would say that's where you're drawing the oil in then.

You'd be better off with an oil catch can connected to the breather and blocking the plenum breather.

If that's not possible then soak the flame trap in diesel for a few days to clean it and check that the wire wool inside is not rattling around and that it fills the trap.

You'll never stop all the oil getting in but you can limit it.

Sounds as if you do not have a PCV valve which means the crankcase is open to vacuum all the time.

i stuck a new flame trap in ,and took for a long drive.what a drive....the missing is now backfiring,pulled off vacuum pipes to see if it made a difference,it used to but not now.the throttle screw is making no differerce whatsoever,having to adjust tickover using cable adjust....
but now no oil in plenum....if its not one thing its another,this was a lovely lump before gasket went.
have no pcv valve......
any ideas on the above????

Sounds like you have a big vacuum leak.

vacuum leak....thanks . ??where should i be looking???
all the pipes are on and intact.everything blue gasketed up??
