Ignition 12v feed

Post by oilyfingers »

My landrover 3.9 refused to start today after a good run :( . After several attemps to start i figured it was ignition related as it did,nt even try to fire, i gave up & called the RAC. The guy turned up & within minutes of my diagnosis found the culprit. The 12v feed to the coil had given up & a replacement feed was added via the side light socket. Now my question is where is the 12v coil power fed from as i,ve scratched my head looking at the manual :? . Any help appreciated.

it's only going to be a very basic 12v ign switched live , maybe via a fuse , somtimes not .....

sometimes an alarm if you have one fitted is designed to break this wire when armed
remember it's only a bodge if it DOSN'T worK

Both RAC guys said it is very rarely a fused feed, normally direct from ignition, but not sure where.

It'll be the white wire on the back of the ignition switch. Where it goes from there is anybodies guess...

Chris.

if it's the same as the early 3.5's you'll have two small screws on starter for wires, one goes to ign switch to activate starter solenoid, other one goes to coil, hope this helps :D
If it aint broke, fix it till it is..

After looking in great detail at the manual & a friends computer with tech info i think the feed is from the immobiliser. Will have a dig around at the weekend.

Well after a lot of rooting about, a new 12v feed has been taken from the ignition switch to the coil. Hopefully all will be well?
