Custom blended trumpet base - advice!

Hey,

Eliot has very kindly worked his majic on a trumpet base for me. It's been ported to 45mm to match my manifold, and he's started to flare it as well. You'll notice from the photos that there's not much meat for this, so does anyone have any advice as to what to do next/how far to take this?

Additionally, what (if anything) could/should be used to 'fill' the holes in the trumpet base between the runners. Adivce and comments welcome; and remember this is for forced induction so not ar$ed about runner length etc.

A lot of guys running the Buick 455 use epoxy to change the shape of the inlet runners.

Don't see why you couldn't use epoxy to fill those holes.

what like Araldite (sp.)? That would work well I would have thought. Only thing I'm worried about is it coming lose and going into one of the cylinders!

I know Phil Ringwood left his 'holey' but unsure how it would affect airflow. Smooth is good I guess.

I'm sure there is something around that's better than araldite.

I'll ask over at V8 Buick and see what they recommend.

Good stuff.

Have used it on cast pulleys in the past to repair blow holes and such like in non-critical areas. You obviously must get the area you are bonding to scrupulously clean before applying it.

Cool stuff I'll have a look at that then. Advice on cleaning products - we talking solvents here or worse?? Need to 'rough' up the metal to make a better contact surface as well??

Chemical metal would seem the best choice - but I want a specific reccomendation, as it must stay put!

ok cool, what about an acid etcher as well?? Would that work?

I would just clean it up thoroughly with a stainless steel wire brush attachment in a drill (to get a clean keyed surface) and wash it in ethanol (not metholated spirit! let it air dry don't touch it with your fingers and apply an epoxy based filler. An etched primer has to be compatible with the filler otherwise you then have a problem getting the filler to stick to the primer.
