yeah, im going to pop the heads off any how as want to go to tin gaskets to try and raise the comp ratio back up a bit.

i still think my problems are ignition related,
right looks like im going to have to order some parts, not having to change the springs etc will save some dosh now
the car was fine on and off track BUt the rolling road this gremlin appeared, which could be heat related and possibly the coil,

If i have calculated right,
without doing the heads now we have enough saved to get the parts for the engine including the trigger bits for the wasted spark set up.
If thats the case im orrdering parts the first week of Jan09,
i could be available for the v8 get together guys
if it bites me in the arse regarding the valve springs, then i'll have to cross that bridge,
but a few others i have spoke to have said they use the single uprated springs with no probs as well.
i know its not ideal, but it does mean the car is back out for next year sooner.

V8D don't publish figures for the H404 cam. It's just about as wild as you can get in hydraulic form.

f**k poop bastard bolloxs,

had a closer look at the pistons i got today off the forum with the guys at caprisport, (ones in post above)
we mucked about with a 3.9 block for a giggle which is when we found out to get the arrows on the pistons facing forward and the conrod dimples facing each other the cut outs are on the wrong side of the pistons

we either have to remove the pistons again, (risk of damage)
or do another set of cut outs opposite the ones that are there now will that matter at all?
as this way when i get a block and crank to use them in it dont cost me anything to get done. as have a cutter made from doing the 3.9 pistons 2yrs ago.

any replies greatly recieved.

Most SBC and 302 ford pistons have two sets of cutouts in each crown, I would see no problem except a slightly lower CR. should be fine.

Tony,

I may be being thick, but cant you just swap the pistons bank to bank of cylinders and then the cut outs will be in the correct position.?

Kevin.
 Then the rods will be the wrong way round, looks like pistons off rods then, any decent machine shop should do it in about an hour.

That got to be better than cutting an extra set of valve reliefs, weakening
the pistons and reducing compression.

to late Kevin
another set of reliefs cut today,
will post pics later,

Also looks like the valve springs are to weak now, as you can push the valves open with a bit of effort with your hands, two are that weak you dont need much effort at all to push them open,

another set of springs will be ordered this week which will either confirm or deny that the ones fitted at present have failed

Tony,

Wow they must be knackered to do that, should have a seat pressure of 75lb, unless you have very strong fingers.

Were these the real Steel ones and how long did you have them in?

kevin.
