Which Anti Freeze

Gents

Here I am asking dumb questions again.

I have been using 4-Life Anti-Freeze/wetter. It is very expensive and cannot be mixed with any other fliud including water so if I have a leak away from home I need to completely drain the system.

I do not have any cooling problems so have gone back to normal Anti-Freeze.

I have bought, under recommendation, Blue Comma Consentrated but there is no mention of anti corrosion properties that I believe we have with the Ally engines.

Could someone put my mind at rest please?

There was some dicussion over "old" engines and anti freeze. All that I can remember is that some of the modern ones will actually distroy the older type of gasket material used in our V8's. I know it seems daft but the blue coloured ones are less likely to be the bad type!

I just did my system with the orangy stuff

I needed something in for the winter when it stands for long times unused and would hate to burst the rad / engine for lack of antifreeze

Strange but the Auto factors said the Orange was the better stuff and more suitable for ali engines and blocks. They are all mechanics (retired) serving there so have an interest in cars / projects. In fact thay were the ones that got in 20 different CV joints before figuring the drive shafts used were of a VW type 2 - not many would do that.

How fast though does it eat the gaskets? Is it good for the rest of winter or am I in for a cold weekend ?

Sorry guys, I don't really have anymore details, the subject came up ages ago on the Cobra forum.

Basically the older ethylene glycol was supposed to be fine, some of the modern stuff uses something else as it's main component.

I just use the Pink stuff from Halfords.
I also have Blue stuff from Halfords which was all they had a while back when I was putting another engine back together. They have both been fine, but I dont mix the two. Mainly because the two make a really shitty brown rusty colour

I use Penrite Pro AF/AB in a 33% mix. It is green in colour.

Penrite is the official supplier to Land Rover in Australia.

This was the coolant that was added by the Land Rover / Range Rover specialists who built and installed the 4.6 for me.
