SD1 Starter motor query.

Post by mgbv8 »

Just finishing a conversion for a mate. He has fitted an LT77 to the RV8 and its come with what he says is an SD1 starter.

The starte has two connections for the ignition side. One is a spade and the other is a threaded post.
On his old setup on the MGB he was using the stock 6volt coil. When starting one of the connections on the MGB starter was the feed to the starter solenoid, the other being a 12volt bypass to the ignition coil (which only came live when the starter solenoid was engaged / energised) for max spark during cranking. Once the starter solenoid had dropped out the 12volt feed to the coil dropped out and it went back to the 6volt feed via the ballst wire.
I wont get back to the car for a few days so if any of you know which connection is which it would be a great help.

Perry
