Unless I misread the Crower part numbers, a V8 developments H404 (or "stealth") should be a similar cam. The kit was around £400, but that included lifters, timing gear and appropriate valve springs.
I think my TVR heads are somewhere around stage 4, so I can't help with machining since it all just fitted on my car.
I didn't bother with a cam retaining plate, but I may well fit one this year. I'm sure my local Land Rover dealer can supply such things, or I can arrange to have some laser cut.

Yes. Sorry for not replying yet. It's been silly at work over the last couple of weeks... Trying to get all the targets met for the year end so we get our bonuses (to spend on getting another v8
)
I will know more about how tractable a 404 can be made with VEMS in the new year when I have the Griff back on the road with new running gear.

Well from Pauls web site that lot would come to a shade under £340.00 which doesn't sound too terrible.
You need to check whether the standard collets work with the Crane retainers or need differnet one's, might be a good idea to replace them anyway for reliability reasons.
You mention machining, do you mean the spring seats as I'm not sure that is required unless the dual springs are actually longer. the main thing you need to ensure, is that the springs are installed at the recommmended heights and a few shims may be required, I think Paul or Real Steel have them.
Kevin.
ah maybe im being told some defo info then,
as i was told the inner spring would not fit without some work to the head,
will look further into this then,

Tony,
As long as there in good shape and you keep your rev limit sensible, say a max of 6300RPM which with your choice of cam that peaks at 6000RPM should be all you need to use, they should be fine
The other benefit is less cam wear, increasing the spring rate puts additional stresses right through the valve train and takes more power from the engine.
On the road you will not need to use max revs and on track you will only be at that level for a few seconds on each run, unlike an engine used in a circuit race car, which will be hold high RPM for much longer periods.
Wth the 50233 cam I would think using the Rhoads lifters as you suggested would be a good idea as they will soften the cam characteristics at below 3500RPM giving more torque and putting less strain on the valve gear, they are noisy as you probably know.
Kevin.
