v8 capri

Post by A_J_CAPRI »

me and my dad are embarking on doing the v8 capri converison.

so far we have been told we would benefit from a 2.8i special as it had the LSD and use a american 308ci v8 engine as the rover v8's are just 2 vittese engines joined togehter and are prone to over heating.

We have £1,000 to start with and would like to get a car and engine for that amount....but happy to just purchase a capri for 1k if it means not doing much panel work e.t.c

i have alreay spoken with FAT CAPRI and he was helpfull with a few websites e.t.c wich lead me to here :)

but we really need a simple guide or to do list on how we go about doing this kind of project and what are the first priorities e.t.c

we do have sumone who owns 6/7 capri's wich he strips and bangers so spare parts and knowledge can be obtained from him e.t.c.

any info will be much apreciated.

jason :?: :D

It's the Triumph Stag V8 that's basically 2 vittese engines mate, the Rover is based on an old Buick V8, they're a good engine, pretty cheap to come by and quite easy to tune ( got one in my Phaeton kitcar project )

Chevy's are a popular choice for Capri, but i've gone with 5.0L Ford in mine.

Range-Rover, Land-rover and MG-R were fitted with the 3.9 V8 i believe mate.

Fueling is down to personal prefences really mate, i'm a big fan of carbs ( would fit them on my Mondeo ST220 if I could  ) but alot of people like Injection.

each to their own.

The Rover V8 has come in many variations over the years, carbs, injection, distributor, distributorless, 3.5,3.9,4.0,4.2,4.6 and that's just the Land Rover versions.....

Best bet if you fancy the Rover is to decide how sophisticated you want it to be, then find out if it's a std motor, or if you need to do a mix / match from various engines.
