rebuild my engine

Post by capriv8 »

hi all,

I need a company close to northampton to rebuild my rover v8 engine. I think the head gasgets gone but i really want to get the engine nice and reliable.

I already have some parts and the current engine runs but overheated in traffic recently. I have a brand new 3.9 block pistons and a spare crank but i will probably opt for some uprated parts. My old engine is running a edlebrock performer inlet and 500 carb to (giggle gas setup but not fully connected yet) and i've got a duplex timing gear somewhere for it

Trouble is whilst im happy to go ahead with the head gasget change which i think is all that is needed for now - thats about as far as my experience goes with this type of engine!

I also don't have a limited budget which is why i'm also not going out and buying a crate engine ready to go! plus i am rather attached to the one i've got now.

all thoughts and suggestions appreciated

just noticed the link to v8developments, gave the chap a call - sound really nice and helpfull. He has recomended that i take the engine up to them and for £50 he will arrange to strip the engine in front of me and tell me what needs doing and give a price etc.

i'm guessing you guys all know this chap and will recomend anyway, im impressed on the bassis of the short phonecall anyway but what kind of proces have you guys experienced for a rebuild (plus minor enhencements?)

cheers

Post by capriv8 »

so the bad news was the suposedly almost ready to go engine i had was a pile of crap!!! . Anyway the V8 Development guys were really helpfull and saw my plight and kindly helpme down the road to getting them to build a 3.9 monster!!!!!!

Picked it up 4 weekends ago and i have slowly alsmost finnished getting the engine bay preped.

Just a few things to sourse now.

One of the things i need desperatley is an alternator braket - my old 3.9 one is miles out of alinement and i am no good at cutting and welding

anyone got pics of which one i should be looking for down the scrappers? :D

Other than that i now have a balanced and lightened fly, a custom clutch and mallory dissy to fit.

With the dissy - will i need a resistor??

cheers all
