Hi Guys I hope some one can help me with this, I started of with installing a 3.5 rover v8 in my project but have been having problems getting it to fit so started to look at 3.9 Serpentine engines which will fit but i have now been offered a 4liter Serpentine engine from a range rover so my question is how much diffarance is there on the wiring? I no that it has no dizzy but does this cause any more problems with an engine transplant and is there any thing else i need to no?
Many Thanks Mark.
Range Rover 4.0 engine wiring?

the late efi (GEMS THOR)systems are completely different to anything before and are much more complex. The later GEMS system can be made to run outside a Range rover but its far from just a straight fit as it hooks into loads of different things. Not sure what exactly you have to do but I am pretty sure it involves new chips and stuff making it fairly costly. You could go to an older system which should run a 4.0 ok but you would have to fit the earlier front cover or a 3.9 serp cover which brings you right back to square one. You could use an aftermarket ECU, depending on the one you got it might work out cheaper that fitting the late system. You can then do whatever you want with the maps and stuff but if this scares you then its maybe not for you. One last alternative is you use the Rover P6 pulleys on the early SD1 front cover/engine. Most find these pulleys will fit in just about anything.
How much extra space do you need to find?

Hi Marki
Thanks for the info looks like i will not bother with the 4L
then all i need is to make the engine its self a bit narrower i already have p38 4L exhaust manifolds on my 3.5 which has helped but i need to relocate the alternator but i also have to have about 100amp alternator
i need to also keep the pas so this is why i was looking at the serp engines as you can get a high out put alternators for them and it is mounted i a good place plus it has pas so it looks like i will have to find a 3.9 serp engine and auto gearbox.

See my avitar, thats a 4.6 alternator on P6 pulley spacing so can be done on old style front covers. I think the problem you would have using normal P6 pulleys is your going to have problems getting a v belt to grip enough to run 100A alternator. Like you say serp stuff is probably the way for you to go or get serp pulleys made like I have.
Ok so here we go i have now managed to get my self a 3.9 serp rangerover engine and gearbox on friday night and and went in to work saturday and spent most of the afternoon working out the wiring and reassembling the inlet manifold.
Because it had an lpg kit that had been removed.
so after reassembling the manifold and working out the wiring i riggrd the engine up on the floor and it ran great.
Happy days, so my next qustion is i want to tidy up the wiring loom but also some of the injector plug are broken were could i get new plugs for the injectors and idle air control valve?
Also i want to make up some water proof plugs for conecting the engine loom to the cars wiring loom were could i buy these as well?
The two main plugs to make the engine run are on brown with 7 wires all used and one white plug with 20pins only 15 are used.
Any help on this would be great.
Many thanks in advance Mark.

This is the other lot I was thinking of:
http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/
they do the injector plugs too, but I don't know if they do the other one.
