Hello, I have a 3.5 rover V8, its got a 10.5:1 comp ratio, crowler 50232 cam, rhoads lifters and worked heads. At the moment im using a 390 holley, im about to set it up but before i do am i using the correct carb? is it to small, would i be better off with a 465 or even a 600cfm? id like to stick with holley.
Thanks.
Which carb?

The 390 holley seems to be the holley that people fit to a 3.5. The other one is the Weber/carter/edelbrock 500. I think that you can use the bigger edelbrock because the primaries are actually smaller than the ones on the holley. This stops the thing bogging at low revs.
I think that the bigger holleys will give you some problems! (AJMHO)

Paul,
If the Holley is in good condition and set up correctly for your engine I would stick with it.
If the Holley needs recalibrating for your current engine spec then I would recommend changing to the Edelbrock 1404 500cfm, it's a very efficient carb and very easy to re- calibrate and can return some quite good MPG figures, my mildly tuned 3.5 approx 200 BHP returned approx 26MPG on a journey of around 200 miles which is relevent with the current price of fuel! They can be sourced from Summit in the states for approx $260 which should equate to approx £180 delivered in the uk. all the rods and jets are available from RPI
I have recently built a new 4.35 engine and have also installed the crower 50232 so am wondering how it performs in your engine, it will be a little milder because of my larger capacity so am hoping it will still be reasonable on the road when I eventually get the engine fitted.
Kevin.

Thanks for replys.
The crowler 50232 seems ok, im using the rhoads lifters. I was told that the cam would give a lumpy idle but its fine, idles smoothly at 850rpm and is no problem in traffic. I'm still running the engine in so being careful
Should visit a rolling road soon so will find out what is got.
