fuel pump/sender

Post by Ralphh85 »

im probably going to make up an ali tank to go int he front of my car, or maybe int he back over the top of the gearbox.

question is which pump should i use an sender. the obvious option are...

Range rover, tho i dont know how hard fitment will be, sender should work.

Metro, sender will obviously work and pump should be powerful enough.

MGF, easy fitment in to a deep tank, and sender again should work being rover.

or i get an external after market pump, but which one and what do people do for senders?

Idealy you should match sender to gauge, otherwise you could end up with a gauge thats inaccurate, or check the resistance of the sender you are going to use, and check its resistance at either end if its float range and compare it with the one that suits the gauge, There used to only be 2 common resistances, but I dont know anymore what is used,
injection Pumps are mostly compatable with most Injection systems, for example, my pump I use is off a XR3i, which is the same as whats used in 2.8 capris, Big Mercs and even the Bently Mulssanne Turbo, most of the differences that appear on pumps seem to be fittings rather than the actual pump,

on the mgf pump its all one unit an di presume the range rover and metro are to, im fairly sure the gauges will all be the same resistences, my bro uses a mini tank in a series 3 landrover with no problems, so thinka ll the rovers will be the same.

biggest issues is the presure and flow rate, and fitment, how do range rover pumps fit?

You are making a very quick car
Now if you mount the fuel either front or back there will be a big weight change from full to empty tank -possibly causing handling problems.

It would be better to mount centrally - behind seats and in front of motor

This would give beter weight distribution and also put the tank in the safest position should you be involved in a bump
