Hi guys, Just trying to find out what an engine my dad has got is worth!!
Specs are:
Chevy 5.7 V8
Lightend, Balanced bottom end
4 bolt crank ??
Forged pistons & rods
Double blip heads
Monster holly carb (not sure what the CFM is, but it's one of their bigest!)
fresh build, not been run in as yet!
basicaly this engine is built to take a blower & the original owner recons with a decent blower it should be around the 500 bhp mark, & with out it would be about 350........
Any idea on value??
Cheers
Jono

Got a picture?
brand of crank/rods/ pistons would be good.
A rough guide is to take the cost to build to this spec (add up all the bills for parts and machining less any assembly labour) and devide by 2, If it was assembled by a well known builder add 15%. If anything is missing (sump pan, distributor inlet manifold, fuel pump, etc) take the full value off the first estimate, if it has sat around for years take 10 to 15% for each 5 years .
Hope that is of help

Camel hump, AKA "feulie" heads. It refers to the shape of the machined surface on the end of the head. It's a desirable stock casting, found on 327 and 350 engines. Not comparable to a modern ally aftermarket head such as an AFR, Dart or Brodix casting in terms of outright performance but very useful if you're racing in a class that requires use of std heads and block etc.
