MSD Dizzy advance curve?

Post by winkle »

Just got one of these dizzys with mechanical advance for the rover/buick V8.
For arguments sake a rover 3.9 should have about 35 degrees advance at 3500rpm. If you look at the attached instructions showing different advance springs and bushes and the available advance you can achieve with them none of them go over about 28 degrees!!
Am I missing something here, are these graphs added to the static timing or is this the maximum I could achieve with these springs and bushes  :?

Any advice as usual much appreciated

Steve

Read the page 1: total timing is the initial or static (before the centrifugal starts) + centrifugal (max 28 degrees).

So, if you need 36 and you have 28 in dizzy, you should have 8 degrees static.

Cheers minorv8.

I did read page 1 but the graphs are showing from 0 degrees which confused me a bit, easily done :)

Also, anyone have any ideas on how to change the older style distributor drive gear on these over to a rangie 3.9 type?
