"Spacer for the crank? i take it is to line it back up to the water pump? I suppose that will become obvious when i start to put it back together. "
The water pump pulley lines up ok when the old crank pulley is fitted to the long nose crank Goughie. But the long nose crank sticks out the front of the old style pulley by about 20mm. So you cant tighten it up.
The spacer is just a cup that fits over the crank nose so you can clamp it all down.
Its obvious once you fit the pulley and have the spacer in your hand. Buggered if I can remember where I got my spacer now. Rimmers I think.
Rover 3.9 to 4.6 is it worth the swop, Discuss.........!

Ok, i get you, like a cup to sit over the end of the crank, will have to ask a mate nicely, he will probably be able to knock something up at work.
Glad you mentioned it, it would have been flapping around like a good un on startup

Sometimes i ask myself, why do i bother? Then she starts up and everything becomes clear.....

Thanks, RPI spacer arrived in the post yeterday, just fitted the engine and got it firing before going to pub to celebrate
Cooling is going to be a problem, the recored sd1 rad and 14" fan isnt powerful enough, will try a diesel sierra twin fan setup but probably looking at new rad
Just purchased a super charger, dont know what make, i will upload some piccys to see if anyone can identify it, will see if we can get it fitted up at some point although looking quickly it seems as though the main drive shaft will be too short (come off an Essex v6) can you get longer shafts?
There were no major mods in fitting the engine as it still runs a Capri type 9 gearbox (we will see how long it lasts!) if you use the sd1 box you will need to raise the transmission tunnel. Engine mounts use the 2.8i 2" rubber bushes and home made brackets, will try to upload some photos, really simple if you have a welder of some description.

Tried it with the twin fans but still not enough cooling, a major oil leak from the front end somewhere, the exhausts are knocking and the fan belt slipping, apart from that it goes great
Another weekend of graft then, by the time i get it done unleaded will be £2 and i wont be able to afford the petrol
