Fuel pump

Post by Marsho »

Can anyone tell me if its possible to use a fuel injection petrol pump for a carb engine (3.5 running quad sidedraughts) as long as you have a regulator fitted to restrict the pressure, would a filter king regulator work? or should I sell this pump (brand new in the box) and buy a facet or something similar.

I would think it would be possible bt you would also need a return to the tank as the HP pump run on spinning vanes and warm the fuel in the process so if there was not a full flow the fuel getting to the carbs would be hot.

I would thus suggest something designed for Low pressure

cheers

Personally I wouldn't even try it. When I ran carbs I used a Facet red top with a filter king as well, good set up for carbs.

It will work perfectly fine with a suitable return style regulator.

Used them plenty of times, as do Metro Turbos, Lotus Esprit turbos, R5 Turbo etc etc etc

The fact it isnt turbocharged, is irrelevant. You could apply vacuum to the top port if you want, or just leave it open for a fixed fuel pressure. With vac applied, fuel pressure will be lowered when there is vacuum present ( ie idle and part throttle )

There may be other return style regs available from FSE, or Holley, Aeromotive or any of the common US sources will do regs too.

Depends if his tank is suited for a return line or not. If its not, it may be more hassle to sort that out than buy a low pressure pump & regulator.

True, I but I did mention it must use a return, and I assume the reason he is asking, is that his car is already equipped with en efi setup ???

If it isnt, it would definately be easier to buy a carb specific pump.

Sorry about the delay but sometimes work does get in the way, the tank is a small spun alloy type as used on hot rods etc so there is no return, will get afacet or similar, thanks for all the replys cheers David.
