Hi
Can anyone tell me the size (even better where to obtain one) of an SD1 sump drain plug\bolt? I need one with an adaptor thread tapped into it so I can put an oil temp sender in it.
Thanks
Martin

Hi Jimjrv8 wrote:Martin,
We have new drain plugs and washers in stock, but it's not really a good idea to put the oil temp sender unit into the bolt.
They're normally fitted into the oil pump housing.

Its just that I have the Mocal type remote oil pump housing, which I was going to put the pressure switch sender into. This means there is no place for the temp sender. I do have an in line housing for a temperature gauge sender but was a bit restricted for space to put it (I had it in the return pipe before the filter on the way back to the engine but thought thatwould give a false reading) so I am trying to think of another idea.
Cheers

Jim,
I agree that they usually are in the oil pump hosing BUT what you're really interested in is the BULK oil temperature, not the temp after it's just been through the pump, through a cooler, etc etc. The correct place to measure that is in the sump ! Many standard Disco and RR sumps have a bulk oil temp sensor point fitted as standard for exactly that purpose, as you probably know.
Martin,
If you're going to have to drill and tap the sump bolt to fit your sensor then why not make up a seperate boss and braze/weld that into the sump seperately?
