Engine paint

Post by Pitschi »

Has someone painted the aluminium block and heads? I have paint on my SBC and it's okay for years now but that's not aluminium. Any experience or advice?

Cheers
Michael

I used Plasticoat on my SBC, I am pretty sure they do an etch primer for their range so. . . . . . I would have thought if you can get a compatible etch primer then plasticoat would do it.

The closest I've come is powder coating the rocker covers.

Painting aluminium is very different to painting cast iron. If you really need to paint it then kiwicar has the right idea with using an etch primer. Would also be advisable to have everything chemical dipped as the alloy holds grease and stuff making it difficult for paint to grip.
