I have a 1976 N. American specification MGB converted back to chrome bumpers and with a Rover V8 engine and system conversion, purchased just before moving to Oman. Now needs some work but I can't match the engine number to any engine model and year e.g. SD1, P5, P6 etc. Seller didn't know when or where the conversion took place.
Can anyone help? Engine number on the block, is 45121560D with 9.35 CR

That would appear to be a P6 engine but with a compression ratio not used in the uk.
How much needs doing to the engine? it would be probably more cost effective to look for a later better spec engine, even 3.9's are going fairly cheap on e-bay now and in basic tune will give plenty of performance in a B
Kevin.

Thanks. That seems to make sense. Not much to do on the engine - a couiple of oil leaks and I have the seals for both SD1 and P6. Also installing a new ignition system - using a local enterprise with required facilities. Not easy to get a new engine out here in Oman - have to wait until back in Europe.
