valve oil seals?
problem !
took the heads off my 3.5 rv8 to inspect all the components, while i was at it i thought it might be a idea to give the heads a bit of a rebuild.
took the heads into work and one of the techies took the valves out for inpection, then decides that he dosn't know much about the rv8 (horray)
so i bought a head set and am wondering how to put new valve stem oils seals in. thinks iv'e found em in the head set, about the size of a 1p piece made of a rubber sort of stuff. what else needs to be put where please, and also is the rv8 (mine is from a early range rover) ok for unleaded?
cheers

The rubber washer type oil seals just need to be put over the valve stem after sliding the valve through the guide. Inertia keeps it down on the top of the guide.
Personally I have changed all my guides for the later type with the more usual (i.e. modern!) neoprene type seals. Supposely you can get existing guides machined, although I don't know where / who would do that.
Chris.

Real Steel machined my valve guide tops for the later seals when they were tarting my heads up last year. Didnt cost a fortune either.

Where are you based Garry?
I've got some tidy early V8 heads in the garage for not much money.

Is it a good idea to use old-style seals on later heads?
I ask because I´ve got late heads, but these just have "room" for a max valve lift of 11.4mm with the neoprene seals.
The cam I intend to use is the piper 270 with 11.3 mm of lift.
That´s very close.
I know that it´s possible to short the valve guides, but as I´m from Germany, where the RV8 isn´t that popular, it´s not easy to find a company to do that job with experience with the RV8.
