firing order/cylinder numbers

Post by Ralphh85 »

1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2 rings a bell, is that right?

main question is how are the clinders orderd? is it...

1,2
3,4 (i think this one is correct)
5,6
7,8

or

1,5
2,6
3,7
4,8

or

1,8
2,7
3,6
4,5

i may have to make up manifolds for the car and if i do i need to knwo this to work out which ports will need to be linked first for pulce tunign purposes.

Starting at the water pump, 1,3,5,7 is the bank with the dipstick tube. 2,4,6,8 is the side with the starter motor.

They are basically numbered 1-8 along the crankshaft, with odd numbers being pulled over to one bank and the evens to the other bank. If you look at the shape of the valley gasket clamps, you can see where the even bank is set back compared to the odd bank.

Like Chris said, but the other way of knowing cylinder number one is that its the one nearest the dizzy.
